Tyrants Hold On To Beat Untouchables 3-2

Even with almost an entirely new starting lineup, the Untouchables managed to take the Texas Tyrants to 5 sets before losing 3-2.

Set one saw the Tyrants take the lead early, managing to take an easy hold of the game by capitalizing on Untouchable errors. Led by some key kills from outside, Gianluca Grasso and Jake Langlois, the Tyrants by 4 the majority of the game. The Untouchables pulled within three late in the set, trailing 18-21, before the Tyrants scored four of the following five points to take the set 25-19.

Set two saw the Tyrants retake the lead, but the Untouchables kept them within grasp. The Tyrants began to struggle offensively, committing 8 hitting errors, while the Untouchable defense simultaneously picked up. The Tyrants continued to be unable to put the ball away, hitting just 0.059 in the set. Going into the end of the frame, the Tyrants held a 21-20 lead before the Untouchables put away five of the final six points to take the frame 25-22 and tie the match at 1-1.

The third set featured a battle, with neither team being able to pull away. The Tyrants got a motivational edge with a defining kill away from Austin Lovett, giving them a 16-13 lead. However, both teams' string of unforced errors would bring the set to a 21-21 tie. However, this time, the Tyrants hung on to take the set 25-23 behind nine team blocks, fighting through their twelve unforced errors given to the Untouchables, including six from the service line.

The fourth saw the Tyrants up early at 8-6 before the Untouchables rallied back behind pin hitters Will Ragland and Daniil Paraskevov. Taking the lead at 16, the Untouchables never looked back as they took the set 25-20. Hitting only 0.250 as a team, the Untouchables finished ahead of the Tyrants 0.189 hitting percentage to force a fifth and final set.

The fifth set was one for the ages, with both teams fighting to the end. With ties at 5, 10, and 12, the ending came down to consistency as the Untouchables committed seven unforced errors to just three by the Tyrants, allowing the Tyrants to cap the set 15-13 and take the match 3-2.

The Tyrants would finish the match with 18 blocks and a 0.182 hitting percentage, with the Untouchables slightly behind with 12 blocks and a 0.158 hitting percentage. The game pushed the Tyrants to 2-0 while the Untouchables fell to 0-2.
