Kraken Crumbles in 3-0 Loss to Tornadoes
The Colorado Kraken ended the weekend 0-2 after another loss at the hands of the Dallas Tornadoes. Hitting only 0.012 as a team, The Kraken had trouble finding consistency across the board.
Set one saw some long rallies, but the Tornadoes ultimately went up early, 10-6. Their lead never dwindled as they went on to take the set 25-17 off a game-winning kill by Nick Serowski. Tornadoes ended the set, hitting 0.333 while holding Kraken to a 0.077. In the end, the Kraken couldn't consistently get the ball to the floor despite the impressive effort by Colin McAtee, getting five kills with a 50% kill efficiency.
Set two started similarly with some long back and forth rallies until the Tornadoes took an 11-6 lead. They maintained their lead with a solid performance from outside Felix Chapman, who put away an additional eight kills. At the same time, Kraken struggled to get past the Tornadoe block, hitting-0.069 as a team. Serowski was again the finalizer, chipping in 3 kills to help take the set 25-16 and the 2-0 set lead.
The 3rd set brought fans deja vu as the Kraken again struggled to find their rhythm. The best they could manage was cutting the Tornadoe's lead to four halfway through the set, trailing 14-10 before service runs by Tornadoes' Luis Vazquez and Sean Smith pushed the lead to 21-12. Serowski came up big in the set, scoring five kills on nine attempts. The Kraken won a few long rallies, including a service ace from Chike Opurum, who also hit a stunning 0.667 for the match. In the end, the Kraken couldn't find an answer to match the Tornadoes' chemistry and lost the set 15- 25
Kraken ended the match with a 0.012 hitting percentage, partially from the Tornadoes' 13 blocks. The Tornadoes showed consistency across the board, finishing with a 0.326 team hitting percentage and eight aces from the service line. The Kraken at least held a 76% positive passing reception against the Tornadoes serving, with libero Juan Rosa proving to be an invaluable asset for the team's current lineup.
