Tyrants Set Tone For Season With 3-0 Sweep Over Blaze

Led by starting Outside Jake Langlois (18 PTS | 17 Kills, 1 Block, 8 Digs), the Texas Tyrants defeated LA Blaze, 3-0 | 25-15, 26-24, 25-18. Opposite Tim Johnson added 13 PTS (13 kills at 57%) for the Texas Tyrants in their victory, holding back Blaze's Outside, Eduardo Hernandez. Eduardo tallied a team-high 10 kills at 56% for Blaze's losing effort.

The Texas Tyrants came out for the season opener with their entire starting lineup, with the new additions of Outside Jake Langlois and Libero Jose Mulero. Outside, Langlois and Gianluca Grasso each held Blaze's offense in their place, with two debilitating blocks to Blaze Opposite Charles Belvin. Both Tyrant's Middles were unstoppable against the Matador's block and defense. Ryan Maune scored 6 kills (75%) and Austen Lovett with 8 (80%), each with two blocks.

LA Blaze saw the rise of their new Outside hitter Hernandez who was the consistent starter for the team, through a series of lineup changes throughout the match. With the addition of their two new setters, Jesus Serrano and Luis Carlos Torres, Head Coach David Chaparro had to work hard to figure out the right lineup to match each. The team did well to use their challenge calls for the software's first day at the competition, catching the Tyrants on calls the refs couldn't even see.

Overall, the game came down to each team's offensive efficiency. The Tyrants dominated as a team at 61% efficiency over Blaze's 41%. LA Blaze could not produce enough kills off their perfect passes to match the blistering speed of the Tyrant's offense. Even more with the Tyrant's intense service pressure, scoring continually on break point's through the match.

LA Blaze will need to work to decide on a winning lineup as they get ready to face the Chicago Untouchables in the second match of their divisional games. As for the Tyrants, the Untouchables should be easy to handle as long as they can continue to score at high efficiency. Especially when even their alternative lineup with Opposite Daniel Jacobs, Setter Isaiah Acfalle, and Outside Anthony Robinson is primed to do the same.
