Pineapple dominates in first Eastern Conference Event
The NVA returned to action November 10th and 11th in Angola, Indiana at Ball Sports Academy. The event featured 6 matches played on the home turf of Team Pineapple with LVC and Icemen traveling from New York and Chicago respectively. Match play started with Team Pineapple topping Icemen 3-1 . Icemen was lead by former Ukranian National Team Outside Hitter Andrey Diachkov, who had a match high 17 kills. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to out match Opposite Jeff Ptak’s NVA debut with Pineapple. Ptak had 14 kills and 3 digs, Lloy Ball finished with 37 assists and 4 digs. The second match of the day was another 4 setter with LVC taking down Icemen. Icemen made some lineup changes from the first match with Kyle Overby taking the reigns for Diachkov. Overby provided the Icemen with 13 kill but was countered by LVC, lead by Alex McColgin and Jordan Varee. Jordan Varee, typically an opposite, performed as an outside hitter in this match and finished with 10 kills to put the Icemen down 0-2 for the day. The final match of Saturday play ended with a feature of Team Pineapple vs LVC. This was the 2nd meeting between Pineapple and LVC in NVA play. The previous meeting at the Las Vegas showcase resulted in LVC outlasting Pineapple 3-2. However, Pineapple was the victor this go around as Pineapple swept the match 3-0 led by Setter Jorge Ralat and Opposite Chris Gisslen. Pineapple finished the first day 2-0 and LVC finished 1-1. The first match of the 2nd day of the NVA Eastern Conference Event was a rematch between Icemen and LVC. After starting down two sets to none, Icemen battle back to win sets 3 and 4 behind Andrey Diachkov’s 21 kills and 4 aces. Mike Bunting also complimented 16 kills and 9 digs for the Icemen. LVC was able to regroup and claim the match in set 5 winning 15-13. The final play of the match ended in LVC’s favor as a questionable call by the official thwarted a 4 point comeback by the Icemen. LVC was lead by Anthony Bonilla, who had 11 kills 6 digs and 1 block. Match two of day two was the rematch between LVC and Pineapple. Pineapple controlled the first set 25-19 before LVC retaliated with a 30-32 win in set 2 to even it up. Unfortunately for LVC they were unable to maintain their momentum and the Lloy Ball lead Team Pineapple was able to dominate set 3 (25-19) and set 4 (25-23). The Pineapple victory put LVC at 2-2 for the weekend. The final match of the first NVA Eastern Conference Event provided viewers with Pineapple and Icemen squaring up across the net against each other again. Icemen was guided by Opposite Jamion Hartley to take the match lead 2-0. Pineapple made a few lineup changes in set 3 and was able to stave off the Icemen sweep despite Icemen having 2 match points in the set. In set 4 Pineapple was in complete control of the match momentum taking the set 25-14 and tying the match at 2 games a piece. The momentum appeared to stay in Pineapple’s favor as Setter Lloy Ball predicted he would start the match with an ace and then proceeded to deliver on his prediction. Icemen, however, were un phased by the former Olympian and were able to regroup behind the leadership of setter Tim Falknor and Outside Hitter Jay Petty. Icemen were to finish the match victorious, winning set 5 (15-12) earning their first match victory on the weekend. The Eastern Conference standings after this past weekend leave Pineapple leading with a 3-1 record, followed by LVC at 2-2 and Icemen at 1-3. The first NVA Eastern Conference Event was an overall success. LVC, Pineapple and Icemen provided a fantastic weekend for viewers around the world interested in seeing professional volleyball here in the United States. The NVA will be wrapping up 2018 with 2 more events. December 1st and 2nd will see the NVA bringing competition to Tempe, Arizona where Sizzle will host Blizzard and Rising Tide at Aspire Volleyball Club. The following week, December 8th in Buffalo, New York, LVC will host Pineapple and Icemen to a one day, three match event at Buffalo Niagra Court Center.
